Design Notes

PFOR, the main enzyme that catalyzes the reaction of pyruvate to acetyl CoA, in C. tyrobutyricum is inactivated in the presence of oxygen. Therefore, the aceE gene from the facultative anaerobic E. coli bacteria that encodes a component of the PDH complex was used. PDH could be enacted in the presence of oxygen to achieve the same metabolic function as PFOR.
